Back together again, it rocks. The 78GL head was the same(except for the perforations). I had it completly rebuilt and valves ground.
I kept the old head in hopes of finding a repair. It ran on the EMS since the 80's w/ the damage it had.
Now my temp gauge is way more predictable.
Couple snags...careful which intake gasket you use. One of them looks like the right one, but WILL NOT WORK. Hold the gasket up to the manifold to see which one is right. They both look right against the head, but the wrong one actually looks better against the head. A certain saab parts site has it listed wrong (as the carb version). I called them.
..and I had a misfire for a while that turned out to be #1. Had fuel, and spark, but when i pulled the spark boot off(engine running) nothing changed. The new plug had visually never fired.
Swapped cap and rotor, and boom, there it was. Never had that happen before...
Now I'm gonna enjoy this thing before the snow flies
cheers!
