The center console will NOT fit with factory a/c. It is a tight fit even with out. I suppose it curves slightly down at the bottom as well as at the back. One piece of advice I could offer is to taper the driver's side more aggressively... With big shoes, I can hardly get to the gas pedal without mushing the brake at the same time. I will eventually pull the pedals out and bend them, but it is a bit of a pain. If you build the base, and the din slots, you could pretty easily bend the aluminum to it. Might be a little tricky, but you could make it work. I replaced the faux wood trim on my 99 with brushed aluminum- I get more compliments on that than any other part of my car. If I redo the heater control, I will probably ditch the whole control unit for something a little more attractive- more brushed Al. Makes a nice addition, and looks vintage. Only people who know 99s know that it is custom. I like it that way. Here are some photos a friend took: http://craftybastard.photosite.com/saab/?page=5
They dont show everything too well, but you get the idea.
