1st check to make sure the engine isn't overfilled with oil. I once had a guy do me a favor and added oil to my engine because he said it was low. The next day I had oil all over the place and couldn't imagine why. I drained six quarts of oil out of the engine! If you don't have too much oil, it sounds like the crankcase might be pressurized- that would not be good.
Do you have mucky brown slop stuck to the underside of your oil filling cap?
