Be careful. The "cone" or "nipple" on the end of the transmission is alumninum and can be dented or broken. One technique is to put pressue on the trans with you hoist and hit the trans nipple at the same time.
As for engine/transmission- I find it is easier to mate the transmission to the engine on the floor. This never puts stress on the driveshaft or the front trans bearing. Mating in the car can do that.
