Actually, I didn't get to 'consider' welding at all -- it was done by a previous owner. When I say 'freewheel is welded up' -- I didn't mean by me! (That would have been my last resort as well.)
I can't really describe the 'permanent nature' of this tranny weld in words. So see the link below for a couple photos. ;-)
I spoke with Jack Lawrence quite a bit the other day - and ordered what I need to put the tranny back together with new seals. I also purchased rebuild kits for the clutch master & slave, all new clutch components (& pilot bushing), as well as a set of steel gears (timing, balance, crank)to rid my worries of the balance shaft gear. So, I'll be busy for a few weekends!
