What is the proper level for gear oil in these 95, 96, 97 transmissions?
I see references to "1.4 US quarts (approx. 1.4 litres)" when perusing the stroker specifications in service manuals, and "1.8 US quarts (approx. 1,7 liters)" when the V4 transmission is the one being checked on.
Is the volume of oil in the differential section greater with the V4 to explain the difference?
Is there some gear box volume difference between smooth case and ribbed case?
Was it determined that the larger volume specified late (V4) had benefit over the earlier (stroker) specified volume?
Is the oil surface the same distance down from the fill plug, regardless if 3 or 4 speed, smooth or ribbed? stroker or V4?, so that one dipstick suits all?
Am I just overthinking this and should be content with just checking for 'some' overflow of oil when the level plug is removed?
