All things considered it would be easier to buy a 900 with factory air IMHO... unless you're really keen on this particular 99.
Saying that, I have thought seriously about it for my own well-loved 99. Out here in Australia there are a lot of 99s with air, some 'factory' and some retro-fitted. The problem is where to put everything. Where you'd need to fit the compressor will make access to #1 [back] sparkplug difficult. All the 99s I've seen have what looks like specially made plastic box/pipe/ducting that fits under the dash with extra vents in. The condensor (?) unit inside the car usually takes up a fair bit of room above the passenger footwell too.
Probably a modern compact custom-designed system from Vintage Air would be a better solution, but you'd have to make a centre console to take the in-car componants. That'd be my suggestion anyway; at least spares wouldn't be a problem.
Hope you decide to make it work! :)
