You could always opt for an old car cooler from the 30's to 50's. They mount on top of either the passenger or drivers window. They work on just water. If you don't know what they are they are kinda hard to describe. They are about 3 feet long and kinda look like a fire exinguisher...they mount on the door window lip with wingnut clamps, and you roll the window up to it. Inside the unit there is a hemp cylinder that is wet from the water (about 2 gallons). As you drive, the air blows through the cylinder and cools down as if you were near the water at the beach in the summer. On the front of unit is a fan to act as a turbo charger. These were factory Delco units. Mine is from 1938. I have mounted it on newer cars and replaced the six volt motor with a GM heater motor from 1955-up. They actually work pretty well with a twelve volt. I've had ice form on the front of the unit on a hot day and they do cool the car off quite well. If you look in Hemmings Auto Magazine you will find ads for new/old stock ones. I think the going rate is about $400.00. If you look in a hot rod magazine, you will sometimes see pictures of them on older hot rods. Then you'll know what they look like.
