I dont think it is so different- Contrary to Justin, I swapped tons of parts from my 1980 900t parts car for my '78 99t. Engine, suspension, brakes, wheels, lots of interior: all of them worked great! The a-arms have different mounts, but the arms are the same. Engine mounts are the same, short of the front one, but it is easy enough to swap the front tranny cover for the proper mount. Radiator/cooling system is different, but only on the external bits-still that (ahem) *great* waterpump. Tie rod ends, ball joints, and suspension bushes are all the same. Steering rack is different. Exhaust has a different down pipe, but the rear muffler assembly is the same. Front seats are the same. Doors are the same. wiring is different, but not the bits that connect to the engine. Waterpump cover is slightly different. Umm... Obviously all the body stuff from the windscreen back is the same i.e. doors, rear hatch, side windows, exterior trim. There are subtle differences, but not many. Rear axle changed a bit sometime around 79, but the e-brake didnt move back there until after 1980. The fuel tank in a 1980 is plastic, and definitely something you will want. with those slightly different (but very useable) rear axles, the rear shocks changed too. But only a little. Infact, it was in the middle of the '78 run that they changes. Sometime after May if I recal. Mine was made in April, so I have te old style. The sway bar for a 99 was very simple, and a direct bolt up, but a later 900 one can be fitted too. Again, they are just a little different. That is my take on things. I am sure people will have things to say about this info, but this was all true for 1980 900t parts car I had and my 1978 99t. Hope this helps.
