Nigel, have a beer or brandy and relax. Life is good and so is your Saab.
Why the need for a label? There's no identity crisis here. Go to the History of Saab pages on the various links and you'll see Saab has been an innovator in car technology which has produced fun driving, safe and stylish cars. Not the fastest, biggest or trendiest, but a car made for car enthusiasts.
Take your car for a nice drive tomorrow and when your turbo slings you into upper speeds without having to downshift as most of the other cars you mentioned, then think of what your Saab means. Audi owes it's new found "technological advancement" to it's merger with VW and the success of the first turbo production car a 1977 Saab 99. BMW tried to produce a turbo car with a 1977 2002, but it had many problems.
Rhetoric here gets old, but enjoy your Saab and forget about German car envy.
