The Question I have for you is has the dealer been unable to fix problems with 9-3 or are you disappointed that you have any problems. The problems you site seem like they should be easy to fix if the techs are competent and they replace the malfunctioning parts.
I have a 99 9-3 and a 99-95 SE and the only problem I ever had was a AC failure with the 9-3. The dealer gave me a loaner 9-3 for the duration.
Occasionally, there can be problems with the reset function on the on-board. This should be easily remedied by a competent tech.
Can you speak to what broke on the door handle? Was this the inside door handle? Also if you have a SE, what broke on the automatic climate control?
I don't wish to diminish your disappointment, but have you found the SAAB to be superior to the Jetta in performance or ride? Assuming you get these minor bugs worked out, (and the way to do so is to make a big stink with SAAB USA so the dealer makes its a point to assign their best techs to your vehicle) what would your satisfaction level be with the 9-3?
Which warning lights are giving you trouble (Is it time for service?). Also which locks are inoperable. Is it possible the demo suffered flood damage to electrical system before it was sold to you?
Call SAAB USA and ask for help. They will accomodate you and should you feel the SAAB is a lemon under your state's law, they will work with you. Please be sure to document all interactions with the dealer and the repair folks as this will be needed as an offer of proof.
I love my SAABs. They are not perfect but once you get used to one, no other car offers a similiar total package.
Your experience with your vehicle is uncommon. THe locks can be loud and clunky but they have never failed to operate. Also the warning lights can be triggered by a failure to securely fasten the gas cap with three twists or by a general failure to properly reset the onboard computer after a warning light or message episode. I had this problem for a while with my 9-3 but found it a minor annoyance.
I finally made it a point to instruct the service techs about the specific nature of my issues and insist that they verify their fix prior to returning the car to me. Hold individuals accountable within the dealership. Take names and let the techs know you are making it a point to review their work with the dealership and SAAB USA. You can do this without being hostile. Good luck.
