In this case, you're correct, it would help keep a turbo on the boost and get rid of the bobbing up and down as you go on-boost/off-boost/on-boost. But in my SVT the "hanging" throttle did make for jerky gear changes while driving in stop and go traffic. It all has to do with the OBD-II emissions stuff which was mandated starting with 96/97 model year cars, if I remember correctly. All I know is the Maxima guys don't like the way Nissan handles it (though they say you can't tell with an automatic, only a manual), and on my 1998 VW GTi VR6 (which I sold to get the SVT after the 1st baby was born)(man I have spent too much money on cars in the last few years) the hanging throttle was very subtle. You would only notice if you really revved the engine up and for some reason took your time changing gears. In stop and go driving, you never noticed it. Eventually, you get used to it, but I bet my SVT clutch plate has some interesting wear marks trying to compensate for it!
