I was just going to say the same thing about the 9-3 having nothing to do with the 9-3SS. It's a model they no longer make. What are they supposed to do, re-engineer their entire line of old 9-3's to make them as safe as an entirely re-designed car?
If this was such an issue, there'd be a federally mandated recall for it, or at the very least, a TSB. There is neither.
If I recall correctly, didn't Audis have a nasty habit of catching fire back in the 1980's? Well, what if I still owned one of those notorious cars and was in an accident that caused a fire? Would Audi redesign that car? No. Why? Because they don't MANUFACTURE IT ANYMORE, that's why. Saab no longer produces that model, they're not going to redesign something as centrally located as the heater box. It seems to be a pretty complex repair when the knobs break off so I'm assuming that it's a pretty complex item that would cost lots to redesign.
I don't see how they could just easily issue a recall or "update" for something so complex. Just my thoughts.
