Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I certainly don't expect that my car will run forever without maintenance costs. I just think this particular one is really over the top.

I forgot to mention in my original post that there's a rust spot just under there the rear wing/spoiler is connected to the hatch door. It's about 3 inches round and not the result of any accident. My guess is someone overtightened a screw/bolt and caused the paint to crack/chip under the wing and this led to the rust. Again, not the quality I expect from a 40K car, or any car really.

In terms of the turbo, I completely trust my independent mechanic. They're long time family friends and have been fixing Saabs for decades. They are sure that it's the turbo and said they've been doing 1-2 a week for a few years now. I guess Mitsubishi isn't what they're supposed to be. I'm going to ask them about a rebuilt one, but I'm not inclined to go that route, as I've religiously done every repair with original parts and without cutting corners. By the way, the oil has been changed every 3-5K and with synthetic.

I'm not about to toss the car, but I've sure had moments of thinking about it. I truly believe in the environmental importance of buying quality products and using them for as long as possible. I'm glad to hear that not everyone is having the same experiences I've had with my Viggen. I do think that when it's time for another car (my wife is due soon), I'll do something that I've never really done before and actually look at cars beyond Saabs. Of course that doesn't mean I won't end up with a Saab anyway...
