I have to disagree with you there - and I know you're just illustrating a point, but I have to deal with fam/friends who wonder why I would 'risk' driving a car with over 100k. Maybe its the 'norm' for cars to only be expected to last 100k miles, but personally I think that's ridiculous. If a car starts to fall apart after 100k, or if the manufacturer somehow gets a pass if the car manages to last that long, then that's a manufacturer who wont be getting my business. I expect my vehicles to last nearly indefinitely with appropriate maintenance, and in most cases they have. I have over 250k on my 85 900t, with basic care and an occasional 'major' replacement (headgasket at 200k, starter at 230k, starting to get a little pinion whine). If my Viggen were having serious issues now that it's over 100k, it would probably be my last Saab.

You're right though - you have to expect that things will need to be replaced, and if that's what you were getting at then I wholeheartedly agree. I get so frustrated sometimes when friends bag on me for driving 'old' cars. If they start up 99% of the time, get >30mpg, and are more fun to drive than most cars on the road today, why would I change? I'm not so insecure that I need to have a shiny new car in the driveway every 3-5 years.
