I bought a Scantech pump a month ago from eEuroparts because I like eEuroparts ordering system, and have been pleased with their customer service. Plus, they didn't offer an OEM option. The pump didn't have a pulley, so I needed a puller to remove it from the old pump. You're also not supplied with any way to install it. You can't hammer onto a rotating shaft, so you need an installer. I fabricated one with a bolt, and a spacer to draw it onto the shaft. The problem was, the shaft threads were in bad shape. So, I first had to clean them up with a tap...which is hard to do on a rotating shaft. Eventually I got the pulley installed with no damage to my pump.
I installed the pump, flushed the system with two very expensive liters of synthetic PS fluid, and went to start it up. The air did eventually go away, but it seemed to take a long time. That night, my wife and I drove the car to dinner, the whole round trip about 4 miles.
The next day, she took the car to run errands. The whole round trip about 6 miles. The pump was whining, and puking fluid out the reservoir. After 6 hours of diagnosing potential leaks, possible bad check valve, and rebuilding the suction line, I cleaned everything with brake parts cleaner, and restarted. It immediately started to froth the fluid. I then saw the pump was wet in back, and figured it was leaking from the housing. I verified this by removing the pump, and slightly pressurizing it. More fluid leaked out and there were air bubbles.
I returned the Scantech pump...after again removing the pulley, and ordered an OEM one. The OEM pump came with a pulley, and the air was bled in about 30 seconds. One month later still works, even in -15F temps.
So, OEM costs $590 w/ pulley, and the original lasted 9 years, 90K miles; but works.
Scantech ~$250, no pulley, might only last one day and 10 miles...from my experience.
eEuroparts warranty policy is a new part, but I refused to accept another Scantech part. The did honor my return with proof of ordering the OEM pump from another vendor.
