Quite possible you have some water in your gas, which happens this time of year as the weather goes from hot to very cold quickly. I have a MkII Jetta, a couple Decembers ago it started to run very poorly, same symptoms as your car. I replaced plugs, wires, distributor cap, filters, and checked everything in the ignition and fuel system. Turned out I bought a bad tank of gas with water in it. I dumped 3 bottles of dry gas in, and it helped a bit. Once I used it up this gas and filled up again, the car ran normal. So maybe try a couple bottles of dry gas and try a new gas station. Might be a cheap fix.
