Pull the car onto a level surface ---wait 5 min(if the engine is warm) and pull the dipstick to see. In your above post--did you do check it with THIS procedure ???
If you still answer yes, you can slowly loosen the filter and drain out about 8-9 ounces into a small container--then retighten it. Worst case is you might have to do it twice.
I doubt if you did ANY damage to your ride in 40 miles.
The spec'd volume as I recall is 4.1 qts or 4 l. My dealer and I spar back and forth as he thinks its 4. 25 quarts.
The mechanic may have the rest of the 5th quart still on his bench.
Next time take 4.00 quarts--tell the dealer YOU'LL top it off when you get it home.
As for your shudder, the possibility exists that the repair was not done right, but, it more than likely is something else. Tire/wheel issues come to mind first. Wheel out of round, tire needing rebalancing. BOTH perhaps.
Tire out of round . etc. Just some ideas.
Regards.
