Assuming you are committed (no, not in an insane asylum) to the V6, yes, you probably should be a handy DIY, as with any older Saab.
V6 Specifics: VERIFY with appropriate paperwork FROM DEALER timing belt changed at 65K AND new tensioner pulley installed? If not, don't bother even test driving (as the belt may go and ruin the entire engine while you are behind the wheel). This is THE major concern with the V6, catastrophic engine failure has been reported, but should be no concern IF the belt and pulley are changed properly. And it needs to be redone at 95k.
Leaky valve cover gaskets? This is the other chronic V6 problem. very cheap to DIY, a bit more to pay someone to do. Leaky oil can travel to ignition wires, belts, pumps, etc., so small leak is no problem, larger leaks not so good.
I personally also have a leaky oil pan gasket, and at least one or two other V6'ers here have reported repairing same. A more complex DIY.
Otherwise, the usual problems as reported here for any older NG.
