Claying will *not* remove oxidation. Its not a polish per se. Clay shears off surface contaminents that sit on top of your paint, like paint overspray, tree sap, bug and bird doo, tar specs, etc. Claying makes your paint very smooth and is an excellent prep for polishing.
I clay my car whenever I apply another coat of sealant on it. I just lightly rub my hand on the paint and if I feel roughness, out comes the clay. Only takes me 20 mins or so to clay my 9-5.
Having your car professionally detailed the first time is a good idea if you cannot or do not want to do all the work yourself. Its much easier to maintain a great finish than it is to get it looking great. Klasse will do a nice job but won't remove swirls, scratches, oxidation, etc. without some pre-polishing. I used some on a '03 9-3 cabrio recently to see how well it would remove or hide swirls. It made some improvement but not dramatic.
Good luck. If you have more questions, feel free to ask.
