If you have to carry a beeper and it never goes off, I wouldn't expect much for extra pay.

You could expect money, generous overtime, if you have to come in and fix something at an odd hour or an inconvenient time. Be sure to mention it though. You could also track down and fix the source of the problems so that having a pager is not a pain. Also mention the next day when you had to come in the night before and fix something.

If I were the management, I'd be looking to fix the problem, not babysit it. Not addressing the problem makes customers unhappy and can be expensive for them paying for you to come in more than necessary.

I have reliable servers and software, but anything can happen, so I have a pager too. It doesn't ring too much since we upgraded our main server to better software. It's just a way of doing things here - if a server or software is having trouble, go out of our way to prevent more trouble and resolve it. A smooth running machine is the best kind and most pleasant for everyone to work with, and cheaper in the long run.
