My problem with them is that they are unnecessary for 90% (or more) of the people who own them, they're a menace to me, and people who drive them forget how much they weigh and how terrible handling they are. At least when I drive mine, I stay back farther (the brakes suck compared to my Viggen's brakes), I don't go too fast for conditions (i.e., I actually slow down in the snow), I don't tailgate (not that I do that in my Saab, either), I know it's top heavy, so I treat it as such. I've had SUVs tailgating me at 80mph. There's no way they're going to stop as fast as my Saab, and when they hit me, their bumper is going through my read end. I've had SUVs tailgating me through rural roads while I was driving my truck and already speeding, and they apparently wanted to go even faster. The twisty roads around here are no place to drive fast in an SUV. My first winter in CT, I saw maybe one or two cars off the road and about 10 SUVs. People think that 4WD means that you can cruise at 50 mph on the backroads, but they forget that a 4-5,000 pound vehicle takes a while to stop.
