ditto that advice from Dean; I have broken three glasses (the danger zone is the dishwasher -- removing glasses from the dishwasher it is easy to break them)
We were warned about leaving fruit on top of the countertop, something about a citrus fruit or a pineapple, I can't remember, but the rotting juice damaged the granite.
We were given a container of sealant, to be applied to the countertops at some unspecified time. We never bothered to do it. Maybe we should have done it, but 3 years later I don't see any problems.
I recently heard that poured concrete was the fashionable countertop -- can look cool and is cheaper than granite of course. Anybody seen this?
