I just got home from a great, restful vacation. I'm at HNL airport, going thru security and the guy takes me aside and says "is this your laptop bag? I'll need to search it." Sure, go ahead, I have nothing to hide. He goes thru it again and again and finally pulls out my swiss army gardeners knife! This is a very sharp knife with about a 4" blade that my friend the landscaper gave to me. I must have put it in my laptop bag during our move from NY.
He holds the knife up and shows it to the other screeners "here it is!" he exclaims. I'm like oh fc9k, I'm off to airport jail. He told me I'd have to go back thru security if I wanted to keep it (?) I was like uhh, no sir, you can have it and he dropped it in a bin where it disappeared down a chute. "Nice knife" he said. Yeah it was!
The scary part is I got the knife out of my home airport on a 9 hr. flight without a hassle. At least I removed my shoes.
