All total generalizations, and maybe a bit tongue in cheek:
As a pedestrian in NYC it always looked too high-pressure but when actually driving it, there's a bizarre balance of near-insanity that almost works. The 'unwritten rules' and right of way and whatnot. I'm surprised more bad stuff doesn't happen.
There's just a mean streak in CT. I'm from CT, and I can't explain where it comes from. It's as if you have soverign claim to the strip of pavement under your car, and 30 feet in front/behind, and you're supposed to defend it, with your life, if necessary. I don't remember that on the test, but I do remember the answer was always 'Yield' unless it was a substance question, then the answer is always 'Judgement'.
To get the Mass mentality, subtract the anger and add some swagger (literally -- add the 10 feet on either side because 'there's nobody in that lane so I'm allowed to drive right down the middle!'), and a near-religious zeal for passing on the right.
In Jersey, where I'm exiled now, everyone's just out to lunch, or on the phone ordering lunch. I think until cell phone use is a primary offense, everybody interpreting the law to say 'you are REQUIRED to use a handheld phone at any time the car is in motion, especially when in reverse and eating.'
MD's easy: you can never, ever, EVER drive fast enough.
GMAC took the test down :( ... too many people surfing in saying 'well, I'm not the one dragging the average down!'
