I totally agree about the parts you can't see, and I know many luxury brands use tons of parts from their non-luxury divisions like you mention. I just don't really like the fact that we have Saab, a unique, small, Swedish sport-luxury car company with a really neat history that's suddenly being taken over by a boring, monopolistic (is that a word?) everyday car maker. Sure, if there are some parts under the hood made by GM that could save us some money, great, but I wish GM would back off a little and let Sweden have more say in the design of the cars. The current generation 9-5's really tick me off. They GM-ified the whole dash. The steering wheel is in just about every GM car with a 3-spoker, the stereo head unit is found in just about every other GM car, the climate control panel is from GM, and give us back the SID in the center stack and our cool circular signature Saab speedometer. Yeah, okay some of these things are improvements over the last generation, but they added to the uniqueness of the car. Don't get me started on the outside. Does anyone know how much say GM had in that? I'm just curious. Oh well. Sorry for the rant, and hopefully we'll see a 9-5 that leans more toward Saab's traditional "older" tastes.
