You've all posted some great comments. And I think it's obvious that there are far too many drivers who have no idea what their toy lights are really meant to accomplish. Auto manufacturers don't help the situation by throwing new, and often, unnecessary lights on their products. And even if the lawmakers enacted regulations on their use, I don't think the police would do a damned thing to enforce them.

Last year, on a rainy spring day, I pulled over and actually asked a cop why he wasn't stopping the various drivers who were zipping by him without their headlights turned on (a LAW in my state). His response: "I can't pull them all over". OK - so how about a few of them? No comment.

By the way, last night on my drive home, I counted 14 cars on the road (yes - I live in a very rural area). 9 had their fogs on - yet it was a clear night!!
