and wasn't impressed. The Saab 340 is a nicer plane for that kind of duty, but is still noisy, cramped and bounces around in bad weather like a ping pong ball in a washing machine. My rule is not to fly prop planes from October thru April, but I've actually avoided them for years. My worst "thought I was gonna die" flights have all been on commercial turbo prop aircraft. I always rather drive than be a passenger in a prop plane, and in bad weather a car is much safer, IMHO.
The news tonight said it appears the autopilot was engaged when the plane started having difficulties and that icing does not appear to be an issue. Exactly why a pilot would have the auto pilot engaged at 2300 feet while in a landing pattern is a bit surprising to me, but I'm not a pilot.
From all I've heard so far I'm thinking there may have been something wrong with the plane but that the pilots may have screwed up, too. But we just have to wait and see the final results of the NTSB investigation.
