Not sure how it works from where you are, but something like this:
Get across the Tappan Zee Bridge, go south on I-287 (I think) to CT Route 15, aka the Merritt Parkway, that joins the Wilbur Cross. Nice ride, no commercial vehicles). Heavy traffic can make it unpleasant but you should be okay when you're going.
That takes you to I-91 north of New Haven.
North on I-91 to I-84 at Hartford.
East on I-84 to I-90 (Mass Pike) in Sturbridge.
Then the Pike east to I-495 and go south to the Cape or take the Pike to 128/I-95 in Weston, MA, then south on 128 to Rte 3. The latter is shorter.
Have a good time on the Cape. Used to live there. And Eastham is one of the nicer parts.
