No Snaab had set up a "fuel economy challenge" posting a while back... you can find it with a search. Anyway, I just got my first long drive in a 9-5 a week ago, and I gotta say, those things just eat up the highway! Great touring car. Anyway, the numbers:
leg 1: 30.254L/436km = 7.04L/100km = 33.4 mpg
leg 2: 43.157L/582km = 7.41L/100km = 31.7 mpg
fuel numbers come from the pump slip, km from the trip meter.
unfortunately the pump at the end of leg 3 of my trip ate the receipt so I didn't get a good measure, but it would be about the same as leg 2. Leg 1 was mostly flat, leg 2 was hilly for the last 2/3rd of it (hence worse economy). Average speed was around 120 km/h (75 mph) (aside from construction zones), and I wasn't actively trying to conserve fuel - just get to my destination efficiently.
These cars are unbelievably great highway cruisers. If I didn't have to eat + go to the bathroom, I could drive all day without stopping... oh yeah, 2004 9-5 arc sedan automatic 110k km on the odometer (70k miles) and Pirelli P6 tires basically brand new, car loaded down with extra rims, tools + fluids.
