Well, there are niche car manufacturers - Spyker and Konigsegg (sp) are just two, Rolls and Bentley are two more, as are Shelby Supercars and others. The point is, that unless you are going very niche and very expensive, there is probably no room for this strategy in the auto world today. Even well-run companies like BMW make their $ on the 3-series and use this to subsidize the smaller volume cars they sell (former Z8, 8-series, even probably the 6 -series). BMW and VW have been able to turn around Bentley and Rolls because they understood the equity of these brands, built cars that overdelivered on that expectation and invested accordingly. When you have a car brand that does not have a fundementally new product for 7 years (Saab), you are not investing in any future at all.
