I don't know what type lifters are in the 9-5, but 0W40 Mobil 1 is specified for those engines. If the B-234 engines in the 9Ks and the 2-liter engines in the NG900 and OG9-3 have an issue with this you'd think it'd be showing up on this board. Seems like someone would have encountered this!
FWIW, the thinnest oil I run is a 5W50 in my '96 9K. I use Mobil 1 10W40 High Mileage in the 9-5, the '99 9-3 and the '95 9000 CS. I've never quite trusted the idea of a 0-weight oil, although I ran that in the 9-5 until it went off CPO last year.
I do wonder if the real concern is more for much older engine designs, like some domestics, that may have different tolerances.
