I'm not sure you really need 2 names here... like NoSnaab said, IP aside, the writing style made it pretty obvious... I actually have enjoyed some of the banter we have had in the past - clearly you are fairly bright, and while I may not fully agree with all your opinions, it's always fun to debate. I also have appreciated your opinions wrt the cars.
On the point of this particular diatribe, I liken it to reading Ayn Rand. To some extent, I enjoy her "philosophical" writing style + view. otoh, to some extent, while there is truth in it, I find her view is overstated + idealistic.
I will avoid being political here (so as to not abuse this BB), but to a large extent, I don't think we are "coming to the end of such a period"... I actually think that, in spite of some annoying bureaucracy + rules, in some ways, privileges of old are being reduced (albeit with some new ones introduced), and that greater levels of transparency are being demanded of governments + other institutions... not perfect + a long way to go, but I think things are improving, not getting worse... similarly, a free market is wonderful except that there need to be a few rules (eg regulations for the banking sector, or environmental laws) or you end up with various problems (usually the result of short term free market objectives outweighing long term free market objectives)... achieving an appropriate balance is critical!
wrt this thread, I've never been bothered by airport security. Is it effective in deterring a determined criminal? probably most of the time no. Are improvements needed? absolutely. Discussions like this in public opinion (particularly citing good examples like the screening in Israel) push this back to our governments + change happens. I think that is your option #2, no? Overstating a situation can cause tune out. If nobody listens does it help?
