for $30k, but no warranty. Would you buy it?
As TML pointed out, there are 2 things to consider here:
1) how much is the 9-5 worth as a brand new "used" car (no warranty)?
2) how much extra would you pay to have a warranty?
The warranty is certainly worth something. How much? not sure. I think what some are saying is "the 9-5 is too expensive a car for me without a deep discount"... ie, the car itself is barely worth $30k, so you expect a warranty with it for that... if you saw the car for $20k, or $10k, maybe it would be a no-brainer deal, even without warranty?
Personally, new cars are not worth anything near asking for me when I can buy a newish used one for less than 20% of the new car price (and the sales tax is lower as is my insurance)... the total cost of ownership (without warranty), even after wear from a previous owner, never comes close to new car price tags, even with big ticket repairs!
