hardly "proof" for any argument, but those numbers seem about right to me.
39 mgp does not.
I won't say it's impossible to achieve it (straight hwy, slight tail wind, slight elevation decrease, 50 mph in top gear), but to regularly get it, I'm skeptical.
31-33 mpg is attainable on the hwy (28-29 more typical) if kept under 70 mph, and maybe the 2.0T 9-3SS could hit 39 with particular car. I haven't driven wife's '04 that much, but it seems to normally get a couple better than my '07 (or 2002 Aero SW I had for over 7 years).
My daughter's 1999 SE(4) could also average a couple better than my Aero.
