I was in a rented Olds Intrigue, which was actually a very nice long road car. It was a Sunday morning and I had some guy go by me at a good clip, and I was already running about 80. I followed about a quarter mile back for a good half hour or so at about 115-120 in very sparse traffic. It was great.
OTOH, two summers ago my elder daughter and I drove across the US in my 9K. We ran much of the way at 80 and went across Kansas and into Colorado at a steady 85-90. Most traffic was running 80+, everywhere we went.
I don't advocate for unlimited speed roads in the US, except in a few places, but it seems to me that higher limits would be fine. Much of Europe works well with 130 kph (80 mph) and this seems like a very reasonable limit, especially with stricter lane use.
