Somewhat hilariously, I have a mountain of 1/4" non-Chinese (Japanese and Taiwanese) 1/4w 1% resistors left over from my APC tweaking days. :D
Safe to say that starting at 1k ohm (as suggested by the JVC spec) and working backwards would, worst case, do nothing?
What I'm still confused about is the concept of impedance matching, and "low impedance aftermarket head unit" and "high impedance factory amp." Seems like 1k ohm is pretty high impedance to start, considering that the original article suggested 60 ohm, and a brief search of the internet suggested 75 ohm is common.
Electronics is always one of those things I wish I knew more about, like carpentry, programming, and cooking. Turns out the addage "jack of all trades, master of none" applies quite solidly to me. :/
