I am personally thrilled about the loss of spare tires, because it means that there are mountains of those mobility kits in wrecks for me to buy cheaply off ebay.
I put one in my old Ford Falcon because not having a spare frees up a mountain of trunk space, and prevents that rubber smell from invading the car on hot summer days. I put one in my Fiero because I replaced the factory wheels with 17x8s, and there ain't no way a 17x8 spare is going to fit in the car. I put one in my SPG, because the newest spare was 20 years old and it didn't seem safe to ever rely on rubber that old.
I don't actually remember the last time I got a flat (knock on wood), but I think the compressor is a far more versatile tool to carry around, and not having to mess with jacks and potentially frozen-on lugs in adverse weather is *all* win. I've had the kits in my cars for about a year now, and am just a tad bit bummed I've not had a reason to use one. ;)
When the budget allows, I'm definitely going to get a couple more for other cars!
