Thanks for all comments, what I have learned so far Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Wed, 20 Apr 2016 16:32:20 In Reply to: OT: Lots of detail questions on Cutting The Cord, MI-Roger [Profile/Gallery] , Tue, 19 Apr 2016 15:29:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
In addition to reading and digesting everyone's comments, I spent lunch time doing some research and read our TV Owner's Manual when I got home tonight.
Our TV has a built in wireless receiver. I won't need to run any cord to the TV, be it Ethernet or Co-ax, to make this work.
Our N-router has addequate speed for live streaming. In fact this is the preferred protocol speed identified by Samsung - maybe it was just the fastest at the time of TV purchase.
ComCast has a web page identifying Modems that are compatible with their network. They also have a webpage instructing how to connect a client purchased modem.
HDTV exterior antennas are available with built-in rotators that are remote controlled and get the power for the rotator motor through the control cable. No need for a separate 120VAC feed on the exterior of the house. This option will require a hardwire connection to the TV and a new control box sitting beside the TV. So much for getting rid of another box, but this is an option only and not required.
One weird comment in the TV manual. It says to select an unused channel on the router for connection to the TV. I am thinking this is a translation misprint since I have never heard of dedicated communication channels from a wireless router.
Thanks for all your help so far. I keep learning more as I go.
