I went thru this excercise about a year and a half ago. I choose a Jeep Cherokee Limited. Great off-road capabilities, good looking, no-snob factor, fast (with the V8), and it has great utlity.

I looked at the Range Rover Discovery (Slohttp://wwwhttp://wwww), Totyota 4-Runner, M-Benz M320, and Tahoe. I don't like the Ford line of SUVs because the lack any personality. Same goes for the Chevys, but I generally like the look of Chevy trucks.

Once I started looking at the numbers I liked the Jeep. It was the best bang for the buck and I was able to get a really good deal. I live in Dallas so Snow is not a factor, but I am confident my Jeep could drive thru just about everything if I was to move to snow country. The Jeep was the most comfortable of all the different trucks I looked at. The M-Benz was nice, but it was like a mini-van, not a truck. The 4-Runner was my second choice, but I am not a huge fan of japanesse cars and couldn't bring myself to buying a japanesse truck.

I will say that the Mitsubishi Montero Sport was the worst truck I have ever driven in my life. I rented one when I went skiing - it was pathetic in the high-altitude and handled like crap.
