expect the shaft. The market is tight, neither Audi or BMW have any dealer holdback (the magic $ that let a dealer "give away a car" at invoice), and in my experience, both RARELY offer rebates (Audi may on the outgoing A4, we'll see). Judging by Edmunds' TMV, expect to pay above MSRP on the X5 (http://www.edmunds.com/new/2001/bmw/x5/30iawd4drsuv30l6cyl5m/prices.html
or http://www.edmunds.com/new/2001/bmw/x5/44iawd4drsuv44l8cyl5a/prices.html
depending on which you want), and just below MSRP for the allroad (that's actually how it's spelled, BTW, all lowercase) - http://www.edmunds.com/new/2001/audi/allroadquattro/awd4drwagon27l6cylturbo6m/prices.html
Rebates and incentives are usually offered on cars whose sales have stalled, or to pump out excess inventory from "last year" - an affliction that hasn't hit the X5 or the allroad (and judging by the way they sell in Seattle, won't soon) I'd say with either car, IMHO it's not how much over invoice you can expect to pay, but how much just below or just above MSRP you can expect to pay.
Your best bet is to pit the dealers against one another - but I'd bet that they won't play too much ball...
YMMV, though! Best of luck, and sorry you won't be rejoining the Saab faamily!
