We used to be a Bang and Olufsen dealer, and still are a BOSE dealer. I forget why we no longer sell, and in fact also cannot service, the B & O stuff. I suspect it just wasn't selling well enough for the folk upstairs..

BOSE you just have to have, because the name is more or less synonymous with great sound, so people just come in expecting you to have it, and buy it without even listening to other systems/speakers. Fortunately, we know better. Now I'm not saying BOSE are horrible speakers, but they lack the detailed highs of a quality speaker system, and the low bass of a good subwoofer system. And the subwoofer/satellite systems are missing a huge chunk of midbass, because their tiny 3.5" satellite cube speakers don't go much below 200 Hz, no do their bandpass type subwoofers go much above 100 Hz. (inherent to that design). Now, they use some tricks with equalization to bring out the midrange and making the speaker sound more full, but compare it next to any properly design speaker system - take your pick, Klipsch, Kef, Boston, Advent, etc.., and you'll realize just how much information the Bose is not giving you. Add this to the fact that their audio systems are really overpriced for what you get, and Bose is not an option for me (but then I do design my own speakers). The only thing Bose systems are good at in my mind, are compactness and invisibility. If those are the most important factors to you, great!

As for Bang and Olufsen, they too are quite expensive, but I think much more worth it. Unfortunately, we no longer have the option to experiment or repair their gear, so I'm out of the loop with regards to their new stuff within the past three years or so. What I saw, was quite nice and very solidly built.

If these are your two choices, I'd definitely go with B & O.
