The Sleeping Giant GM had a massive display area of nothing truly
special, and within that sprawl was a tiny Saab stand. Only a few
somnabulent visitors at a time, and NO concept cars. I don't live
in Los Angeles but it only takes a few minutes crawling along on a
packed freeway to realize how car-addicted the place is, so it's a
surprise that Saab doesn't bring all their toys along. Overall, it
was a lackluster show but for a few highlights: Subaru broght over
Richard Burns' WRX rally car, Mitsu had theirs, Audi had an R8 Le-
Mans prototype, and Porsche showed off a 959 behind glass. Nissan
had a new Z car too, rather ugly I thought, kinda heavy looking in
style at least. Honda's new Civic Si and the VW Beetle S are cute
and will no doubt sell well. The Minis disappointed me a bit, look
and feel cheap inside with an overhelming plastic environment. I'm
thinkin' my pocketbook's safe for 2002 at least...
