If market share is their interest, and they only have a 2 car lineup, then wouldn't it make sense to take something your good at (i.e hatchback design) and make it more available to the masses in terms of a slightly lower scale model ? The fact of the matter is that SAAB always appears to be missing the boat with their timing. The hatch is becoming more and more popular now, and SAAB already had an upscale one in their limited lineup.. Personally, I just don't think they get it. They viewed the hatch as being an outdated design, and one with no interest. Now they'll see hatches start to sell more and scramble to reintroduce one probably in another 2yrs or so just when the interest starts dying down again...
Having said that, they did play it right with the timing of the 9-5 wagon. I think that could have been a fairly decent seller had they been able to adapt an AWD system into the platform.... So maybe there is hope !
