I think that's what's really at issue. I personally think the new 9-3 is rather soulless, sheepish, and unappealing. But most yuppies will probably like it, so they'll probably sell aplenty.
I hope Saab sells a ton of them so that they can expand to more daring, exciting designs, like you say, in the concept cars. The Sonnet pictures I've seen are SWEET!
I think Saab should develop a sweet, sporty 2+2. European class, style, and performance with a pricetag that's competitive with the Japanese. A "not so rich" man's Porsche, if you will.
If Nissan/Infiniti, Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, Mitsubishi, and god forbid, Hyundai can sell "sporty" 2+2s (not true sports cars, but sporty looking, decent performance cars like 350Z, RSX Type-S, SC400, Eclipse, some even include Tiburon in this class), I fail to see how Saab can't produce a far superior and successful turbocharged version with European exclusivity to match.
There's a big market (at least with wannabe Porsche drivers like me) for such a thing. Of course, it wouldn't haul the camping gear and be a comfy cruiser like my 5dr hatch!
