After billions spent, you still get a Jag, an Aston, a Disco or a Volvo (and at a premium price). Largely because these manufacturers kept their own unique designs and styles and the money went into updating manufacturing processes to increase quality and reliability. Ferrarri and Audi/Porsche had all that plus strong original family members influencing control of management, something SAAB lacks.

SAAB, however, scrapped its traditional unique designs and now discounts its price structure to get larger market shares. SAAB's engineers can't have a unique design for its 100,000 annual run (such as the hatchback or who knows, maybe the manual transmission is next to go) when it forces a higher cost on a companion 400,000 unit production run in Generic Motors due to mandatory sharing of its platforms/parts. So logic dictates that SAAB will be averaged down over time.

As far as SAAB execs (in GM USA) reading any of this and altering their current course, they don't care. They are not traditional car people, they are not SAAB people. Besides, why would a manufacturer care about a board discussion when the cult followers are people who buy used and hold on for ten years and perform all their own work? You can't make money off of a' holes like me that don't buy new every three years and won't pay a dealer $65 an hour just to rotate the floor mats.

Enjoy those used ones while you can. C900s will eventually be as rare as the original Beetles. Your optimism is entertaining, but to be fair, its just a car not the end of the world.
