I owned a 2002 Ford Focus ZX3 with a manual transmission. It was a fun car to drive and as reliable as the Honda/Acuras in the driveway. Having owned one, I read about Focus issues and discovered the 2000 - 2001 models had issues where, in my opinion, Ford downgraded the quality compared to the Euro models. When I lived in Germany, the Focus was rated the most reliable car for 3 years in a row by ADAC. I rented them and was impressed enough to order one when I returned to the US. Now my son owns it and it is running well with 115,000 miles. I never liked the styling of the current US market Focus, but reviewers seem to like the way they handle and reliability is good. I am looking forward to the 2012 Focus and the return of the Euro styling to the US. The 2011 Fiesta is getting good reviews in the US, and the European press seems happy with the new Focus, which they get before we do. Ford has done well with the Focus and it should remain a good product as long as they stick to its roots!
