I know little about modern volvo reliability, but I would generally avoid a first model year of anything. Honda would perhaps be the 1 exception. They seem to get it right the first time most of the time. That is a sign of good engineering. But there are so many parts in a car and so much complexity in an assembly line for a car, that any small thing overlooked in the engineering of the whole product and process can be a problem. Fixing issues after release is usually costly, but common. Coming at this from an engineering background, I'm more comfortable with an established design and process!
