had to replace one broken stud on my '00 9-3
got diamond tip bit for my dremel tool to make a starting point in the center of the stud for the drill - used 1/8 inch drill to go 1/2 in depth...then used a 5/32 to countersink about 1/8 deep
since the extractor is tapered -- having the slight step in the drilled hole allows keeps the stud from spreading when you drive in the extractor.
craftsman extractor got the broken piece out...
right angle drill helps
new replacement studs are only 65 mm long so there is 5 mm less engagement into the head -- the originals are 70 mm -- would have used the SS from GS (they are also 65 mm) but not available then.
check exhaust manifold for warping -- had to mill mine flat -- was over .060 warped.
