Took the turbo apart this evening. There is a fair amount of carbon inside, but I can't see any clear-cut sign of issues. The only thing suspect is that the "cup" (no idea what it's called) behind the impeller looks like perhaps oil dripped into it over time, as there is a coked-up "run" down one side. I don't know how better to describe it.
Not sure about what to do at this point... Would pictures of anything be useful to anyone for a remote diagnosis?
I'm thinking about just cleaning it up and putting it back together and see what happens. Any recommendations for removing the carbon? My first thought would be to use Berryman's B12 - it does a killer job on carbon deposits on pistons (applied directly...) - is there any issue using it on the turbo parts?
